Season Two
Episode Three examines the deaths of Dan Broderick and Linda Kolkena Broderick, who were shot and killed in their San Diego home just six months after their marriage. But their deaths were the final chapter of a story that began decades earlier. We return to the beginning, when a young couple was building a life together, their marriage was filled with promise, and the years of conflict and unraveling that would ultimately end in tragedy were still far ahead.
On May 17, 1995, Shawn Nelson stole a 57-ton tank from a National Guard armory and drove it through the streets of San Diego. The rampage became an extraordinary spectacle, but behind the images broadcast around the world was a story of personal collapse, addiction, and a man whose life had been unraveling long before he climbed inside the tank.
Season One
Episode Two examines the death of 26-year-old Greg de Villers, who was found unresponsive in the San Diego apartment he shared with his wife, Kristin Rossum. His death initially appeared to be a suicide, but the investigation that followed uncovered an affair, a powerful opioid in his system, and troubling questions about what had happened inside their marriage. The case would ultimately lead to Rossum's murder conviction, but behind the sensational story was a young man whose life and death deserved to be remembered.
Episode Three examines the 2013 disappearance of 16-year-old Hannah Anderson from Lakeside, California, and the deaths of her mother, Christina, and eight-year-old brother, Ethan. After Hannah and Christina failed to return home, the search quickly expanded beyond San Diego County. The discovery of Christina and Ethan at the burned home of family friend James Lee DiMaggio transformed a missing-person investigation into a multistate search for Hannah. What followed was a six-day ordeal that ended in the Idaho wilderness, where Hannah was found alive.
